What is Leo el Mundo?
istation’s Leo el Mundo is an Internet-based supplemental Spanish reading program for students in grades 3–5 with a focus on reading in the content area of science.
Interdisciplinary reading and science instruction prepare students for high-stakes reading and content-area tests.
English and Spanish versions allow teachers to place each students according to student’s individual language proficiency levels. Leo el Mundo supports all bilingual and dual-language implementation models.

Interdisciplinary Instruction

High-Interest Animated Instruction
- Highly motivating animated lessons, readings, and additional skill practice help students achieve reading progress.
Science Content
- Content-area objectives include Space, Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science.
- Interactive science labs and activities help students internalize abstract science concepts, such as: the scientific method, the solar system, weather patterns, land features, the rainforest, animal taxonomy, photosynthesis, ecosystems, simple machines, and physics.
Vocabulary Development
- Academic language development and content-area vocabulary are addressed in explicit instruction.
- Multiple exposures to new words are reinforced by students seeing, hearing, and manipulating target vocabulary words.
- Animated visual support and interactive activities develop vocabulary in a variety of contexts.
Fluency
- Fluency is reinforced through instruction and read-alouds that model accuracy, rate, and expression.
Comprehension
- Research-based reading comprehension strategies are taught and reinforced through high-interest animated teaches, guided practice, and independent practice.
Reading Intervention Component
- Struggling students are automatically routed to Comprehension Reteach Lessons and additional teacher-directed instruction.
- For students identified in the program as needing additional support, downloadable teacher lessons and other supplemental materials are provided.
